and is related to the word "panacea." Linnaeus named the genus after

Ginseng can be found mostly in North America and the Northern Hemisphere of
eastern Asia, particularly in Korea, Bhutan, and eastern Siberia. "Panax
vietnamensis," the world's southernmost Ginseng, was discovered in
Vietnam.
Ginseng usually contains chemicals called ginsenosides.
Ginseng comes in a variety of forms and species, including Panax ginseng (Asian
ginseng) and Panax quinquefolius (American ginseng). Other plants, such as
Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) and crown prince ginseng, are
frequently confused for ginseng root (Pseudostellaria heterophylla). Plants
belonging to the Panax genus are considered real ginseng. Ginseng roots are
typically sold in dried form as a traditional medicine that is claimed to have
aphrodisiac, stimulant, and anti-diabetes properties, as well as a cure for
male sexual dysfunction. Ginseng extract can also be found in energy drinks,
herbal teas, hair tonics, and cosmetics.
